Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was re-elected unopposed as the president of Badminton Association of India for another four-year term from 2022 to 2026 at BAI's general body meeting held here Friday.

Sarma, who took over the reigns of BAI in 2017, is also the Badminton Asia vice-president and a member of the Badminton World Federation executive council.

Former junior national coach Sanjay Mishra will be the new general secretary with incumbent Ajay Kumar Singhania becoming vice-president in the new executive council.

NEW DELHI: Badminton Association of India president Himanta Biswa Sarma was on Saturday elected to the BWF council for the period 2021-25. Sarma, who is also the vice president of Badminton Asia, got 236 votes as the 20 council members were elected from 31 contestants at the virtual AGM and council election.

PANAJI: Himanta Biswa Sarma was elected president of Badminton Association of India during its annual general body meeting here. Sarma, a cabinet minister of the ruling BJP in Assam, was elected unopposed for a term four-year term. He took over as the interim president of the BAI last year after the demise of Akhilesh Das Gupta.
