SHINJO ABE, JAPAN"S LONGEST SERVING Prime Minister, who was shot at during an election campaign in western Japan’s Nara city Friday, has died, news agency Reuters reports, quoting Japanese media house NHK. 

The Nara fire department had earlier said that the 67-year-old Abe was in cardiopulmonary arrest before he was taken to the hospital. They said that he had been wounded on the right side of the neck and the left clavicle.

TOKYO: The Japanese government has named one of Spain’s most recognised sportspersons, Andre Iniesta as the new face of JNTO, the country’s premier tourism organisation. Agencia Efe reports that the footballer will star in a series of videos which aim to attract more visitors from Europe to visit Japan for two marquee events it is set to host – the Rugby World Cup in 2019 and the Olympic Games in 2020.

TOKYO: Japan’s largest e-commerce firm Rakuten Group has announced that it will be introducing the ‘smart stadiums’ concept involving completely cashless payments starting from the first home games of the 2019 season of its two owned teams, Tohoku Golden Eagles in Baseball and Vissel Kobe in football’s J-League.
