MUMBAI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Tuesday announced the entire schedule of the league stage for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 season starting 23 March.
Prior to the dates of the Lok Sabha elections announced, the board had confirmed the schedule for the first two weeks of the competition uptil 5 April, which comprised of 17 matches in total.
It was earlier reported that IMG, the organisers of the IPL, have worked overtime and been in constant touch with governing authorities to come out with the schedule as soon as the election dates were finalised.
In a massive boost for franchises, the board has declared that all of them will get the opportunity to play their 7 home games at their original venues. The development comes despite states such as Maharashtra and West Bengal busy across the seven phases of the elections.
This has made the BCCI express gratitude to the Election Commission of India and local police authorities at each venue for their co-operation. It has ensured that the league sticks to the home and away format.
The last league game, i.e. Match 56 will be in Mumbai on Sunday, 5 May between hosts Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders.
The dates for the playoffs and final will be announced later. The final match is set to take place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai just like the first match according to the IPL rules since Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were last season’s champions.
