CHENNAI: Former champions Chennai City FC (CCFC), which is on a "one-year leave of absence" from (the All India Football Federation has termed term it barred from) the Hero I-League, on Thursday announced it was making a play in the NFT (Non-Fungible Token) arena.

NFTs are collectible digital assets that hold the same value as physical assets.

Towards that end, the club signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Belfrics BT, a blockchain platform, and KPR info solutions, as technological partners.

NEW DELHI: Weeks before the start of the 2021 season of the Hero I-league, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) on Saturday barred former champions Chennai City FC from what is now officially India's second-tier league.  The decision to bar the I-League 2018–19 champions was taken by the AIFF's Club Licensing Committee after the The Lions failed to comply with licensing regulations.

NEW DELHI: FC Basel Holding AG announced on Wednesday it is taking a minority stake (emphasis ours) in Chennai City FC (CCFC).  According to the deal, FC Basel Holding AG will acquire a 26% stake in the I-League club and will see the Swiss club lend technical expertise and knowledge to their Indian counterparts.

The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai is unavailable for Chennai City FC as it is hosting Indian Super League matches. Coimbatore’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium will be their home venue this season.
