The Delhi High Court has appointed Justice P Krishna Bhat, former judge of the Karnataka High Court, as administrator of the Basketball Federation of India (BFI) to conduct elections in the faction-ridden national body “at the earliest”. 

The appointment is effective immediately, and the administrator will continue to function until a newly-elected body takes charge of BFI. Until then, the administrator will manage BFI affairs with the assistance and cooperation of the Government of India, Sports Ministry and BFI.

The International Olympic Committee has agreed to work with the Indian Olympic Association to ensure that the IOA Constitution is amended and elections, scheduled for December, are held in "accordance with the Olympic Charter".  IOA representatives met with the IOC at its headquarters in Lausanne where both parties agreed to "address and resolve the governance issues affecting" the India's Olympic body.

Sunday was the last date for filing nomination papers. The 44-year-old player-turned-politician and administrator is reportedly the frontrunner in the race to head the national hockey governing body.

LAUSANNE: The Executive Board (EB) of the International Olympic Committee Thursday issued a final warning to the Indian Olympic Association to "resolve its governance issues" and hold elections by December, failing which the IOC will ban India.  An immediate fallout of the edict is that the IOC Session, which was due to take place in Mumbai in May 2023, has been postponed to September or October 2023.

Ajay Nayak, former Chief Electoral Officer, Government of Bihar, will be assuming the position of returning officer. Additionally, AK Majumdar has been appointed as the assistant returning officer.
