I-League

MUMBAI: India, long known as the epi-centre of cricket betting syndicates, has now been hit by a match-fixing scandal involving football. 

Five football clubs from the I-League are reportedly under the scanner of the Central Bureau of Investigation. As per Times of India, the CBI started a probe after it emerged that a notorious Singapore-based match-fixer Wilson Raj Perumal invested massive sums of money into the as yet unnamed clubs.

NEW DELHI: All India Football Federation (AIFF) general secretary Kushal Das has left the door open for the likes of Mohun Bagan and East Bengal to enter the Indian Super League (ISL) next season as part of a proposed restructuring of the competition, Press Trust of India reports. Point to note though. As things stand, a unified league is still NOT in the offing!

NEW DELHI: The stage is set for the 12th edition of the Hero I-League, Indian club football's top tier league only in name, to kick off on Friday, October 26. This season the I-League will see 11 teams from 10 states battling it out for top honours over a period of six months.  For the first time, the I-league will see a team from Jammu & Kashmir — Real Kashmir FC — make its debut.

PANAJI: Churchill Brothers SC will continue to be the lone team from Goa in the I-League after the All India Football Federation (AIFF) emergency committee approved the club’s request to be allowed to be part of India’s notionally top tier league. With the retention of Churchill Brothers, the I-League will comprise of 11 teams this season.

NEW DELHI: The All India Football Federation's (AIFF) has received flak for its decision to reduce the subsidy for participation in the I-League to Rs 4.5 million from the Rs 7 million the clubs received in 2017/18 season.  More since most of the clubs had requested the apex governing body to increase the bonus amount or the special subsidy of Rs 2.5 million which was given last season.

NEW DELHI: Real Kashmir Football Club has created history by becoming the first club from Jammu and Kashmir to qualify for the country's top-tier I-League after winning the second division league by beating Delhi side Hindustan FC 3-2 in Bengaluru.

NEW DELHI: Ranjit Bajaj, the owner of I-League champions Minerva Punjab FC, has been found guilty of making racist remarks against a referee during a junior league match last Saturday and handed a one-year ban, effective immediately and fined Rs 1 million.  The fine must be paid by Bajaj within 10 days from the date of the communication of the penalty, which was decided on Sunday.
