NEW DELHI: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday presented the last big budget before her government returns to the polls in 2024’s general elections, and introduced a slew of measures meant to cater to as wide a spectrum of the voting populace as possible.

Specific to sports, in a year when Indian athletes will compete at the Asian Games and prepare for the 2024 Paris Olympics, the Union Sports Ministry has received its highest-ever budget allocation of Rs 3,397.32 crore.

NEW DELHI: A Delhi High Court special Bench of Justices Hima Kohli and Najmi Waziri, which heard the fresh petition filed by sports lawyer Rahul Mehra on Tuesday, has asked the Union Spo­r­ts Ministry to show whether the 41 National Sports Federations comply with the National Sports Development Code of India (2011), New Indian Express reports.

NEW DELHI: The Union Sports Ministry has conveyed its decision to grant annual recognition to 12 more National Sports Federations (NSF) through an affidavit to the Delhi High Court on Monday, reports the New Indian Express. This is in addition to the 18 NSFs it had decided to give recognition to earlier.

NEW DELHI: The Union Sports Ministry and the Indian Olympic Association stated on Tuesday that they have decided to approach the Supreme Court to challenge a Delhi High Court order which prohibits the ministry from taking any decision on grant of recognition to national federations.

NEW DELHI: The Union Sports Ministry on Tuesday filed an application in the Delhi High Court seeking the court's consent to restore the recognition to 54 national sports federations (NSFs).  Apart from the 54 NFs, the ministry has also requested for the restoration of recognition of the Indian Golf Union (IGU), the School Games Federation of India and the Rowing Federation of India.
