Online fantasy sports a unique way of engaging with sports: Study

NEW DELHI: Online fantasy sports platforms (OFSPs) are a novel tool for engaging sports fans, according to “Building a Sporting Culture in India through Online Fantasy Sports”, a report published Friday by Koan Advisory Group, a New Delhi based consulting firm. 

The report is based on findings from an online survey of approximately 7,300 OFSP users from 29 states/UTs across India about their experience of participating in online fantasy sports contests and its impact on their engagement with sports.

Tencent in talks to invest in Dream11: Report
MUMBAI: The world’s largest investment corporation, China-headquartered Tencent is looking at investing in Dream11, India’s biggest fantasy sports platform, as per a report in the Economic Times. As per the news report, if the deal goes through, Tencent will invest around Rs 6.57 billion ($100 million) in Dream11 for a pre-money valuation of $400-$450 million.

Online fantasy sports platform StarPick launches in India
BENGALURU: UK-based StarPick Limited has entered the online fantasy sports arena in this market with the launch of StarPick India. Co-founded by Ulf Ekberg, Trigam Mukherjee and Rohit Nair the platform has roped in ace cricketers Jonty Rhodes and VVS Laxman as "advisors", while cricket stars Harbhajan Singh, Rohit Sharma, Dinesh Karthik and Gautam Gambhir have been signed on as brand ambassadors.
