KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Wednesday participated in a programme at Mohammedan Sporting Club here, and announced a Rs 60 lakh grant to the club for upgrading the gallery and the ground. 

Ms Banerjee has also assured all help to Mohammedan Sporting to participate in the Hero Indian Super League, which is the top-tier league of club football in India.

Meanwhile, the TMC observed ‘Khela Hobe Diwas’ across the state with party leaders organising football matches to promote sports.

KOLKATA: Wasim Akram on Wednesday formally took charge as the general secretary of Mohammedan Sporting Football Club. After former general secretary Mohammed Qamaruddin vacated the post due to personal reasons, 33-year-old Akram was elected unopposed at the executive committee meeting, chaired by president Mohammed Amiruddin.
