Decision on World T20 hosts likely in two weeks: Report

MUMBAI: As India’s Covid case load continues to batter the country, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is reportedly in contact with the Emirates Cricket Board to move the ICC World Twenty20, which India is scheduled to host in October, to the UAE.

Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper, quoting reliable sources, reports that the ICC and and the Board for Control of Cricket in India are both convinced that the present Covid-19 crisis in India makes it nearly impossible for India to stage the tournament in its allotted time frame.

“The ICC is in contact with the Emirates Cricket Board regarding hosting of the ICC World T20 in the UAE and we can say that almost 80 to 90 percent matter has been discussed and issues sorted out,” Dawn quotes said sources as having disclosed.

“Now the ICC and the BCCI are in final stage of discussion about shifting the mega event to the UAE and an announcement to this effect is likely to be made in the next two weeks.”
