Delhi Capitals launch T20 DC School Cup tourney

DELHI CAPITALS (DC) have announced the launch of the DC School Cup, a new inter-school T20 tournament aimed at nurturing grassroots cricketing talent across the national capital.

The two-week event will run from 8 to 23 December, with matches to be played at the GMR Aerocity Ground. The grand finale is scheduled to take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, DC’s home ground.

The inaugural edition brings together 18 schools from across Delhi, competing in both boys’ and girls’ categories. Notably, a dedicated girls’ tournament featuring four teams has been introduced, reflecting the growing momentum behind women’s cricket.

The boys’ competition will follow a T20 format, with 16 teams split into four groups of four. Each side will face the others in its group in a round-robin format, with the group winners progressing to the semi-finals and then the final.

Across the two venues, 27 matches will be played over 10 days, with two fixtures hosted per ground daily. Two schools will participate in both the boys’ and girls’ categories, with 16 schools competing in the boys’ event and four in the girls’.

Outstanding performers from both competitions will earn a direct pathway to state-level trials, helping to strengthen Delhi’s talent pipeline and offering young cricketers a meaningful platform to showcase their skills.

DC CEO Sunil Gupta said, “At Delhi Capitals, our mission is to create a Pathway to Excellence for young players, and the DC School Cup is another step in that direction. This initiative reflects our commitment to engaging with schools and nurturing budding cricketers at the grassroots level. At the same time, it is about deepening our engagement with Delhi as a city and embedding ourselves further into its cultural fabric. School cricket is a vibrant part of Delhi’s sporting identity, and through this tournament, we hope to celebrate that spirit while giving young cricketers the platform they truly deserve. We look forward to strengthening the cricketing ecosystem in Delhi.”
