NEW DELHI: With exactly two years to go, Hockey India and the Odisha government are gearing up to host the all-important 2023 FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup. 

In 2023, the nation will host the competition for a record fourth time since its inception in 1971. The 2023 FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup is slated to be held in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela from 13 January 2023 to 29 January 2023.

NEW DELHI: Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju on Monday launched the Assam Rifles Public School (ARPS) in Shillong as a Khelo India Sports School.  At present, nine sports schools have been approved across the country, out of which five are managed by Defence and Para-military forces. In the North-East region, Assam Rifles Public School is the first sports school announced under the Khelo India scheme.

BHUBANESWAR: The wheels to host the prestigious FIH Odisha Men’s Hockey World Cup India 2023 started rolling in as Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Thursday, December 24, announced a new world class hockey stadium in Rourkela city, which would be the biggest stadium for Hockey in India with a seating capacity of 20,000.  This is going to redefine the sports landscape in the region.

NEW DELHI: Former India captain Bishan Singh Bedi has written to Delhi and District Cricket Association president Rohan Jaitley, demanding his name be removed from a stand at the Feroz Shah Kotla and renouncing his membership in the body. Reason: His "deep sense of embarrassment" over plans to install a statue of the late BJP leader Arun Jaitley, a former DDCA president, at the stadium.

BENGALURU: The Sports School (TSS), an integrated school for sports and academics, on Friday launched its 2021-22 National Scholarship Program.  The Sports School’s 2021-22 National Scholarship Program will be awarded to close to 60 eligible students who will receive the scholarship across four sports — cricket, football, tennis and basketball.

PUNE: The Maharashtra government has announced it will set up the state's first world-class international sports university in Pune and it will be functional from the 2021-2022 academic year. State Sports Minister Sunil Kedar, who made the announcement here Thursday, said that the university will be the centre of sports excellence in the country that will pick and train sportspersons of international calibre.

MUMBAI: The Maharashtra cabinet on Wednesday approved a draft bill for the constitution of an international sports university, an official statement said. The state government had announced in the budget that such a university would be set up. The bill will be introduced in the Winter Session of the State Legislature next week, said a statement from Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's office.
