NEW DELHI: The final round of the Hero Santosh Trophy 2019-20, scheduled to be played in Aizawl Mizoram, has been postponed in the wake of an outbreak of COVID-19, and ‘advisory issued by the Indian government with regards to the outbreak’.
In a letter to the state associations who have qualified for the final round of the championship, the All India Football Federation wrote: "As AIFF is more concerned about the safety and health of all the players and officials involved, it has decided to postpone the matches of the final round of the NFC for the Hero Santosh Trophy to be held from 14th to 27th April in Aizawl, Mizoram to later dates."
"AIFF will be monitoring the situation of the coronavirus outbreak and decide on the fresh dates, which will be communicated to all the participants in due course," the letter further stated.
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has postponed the final round of the 75th Santosh Trophy National Football Championship, which was scheduled to be held at Malappuram in Kerala from February 20 to March 6.
“In view of the rise in COVID-19 positive cases, the AIFF in consultation with the Government of Kerala has decided to defer the competition schedule,” said Kushal Das, the national federation's general secretary, in a letter to the 10 teams, including host Kerala, which have qualified for the final phase.
