MUMBAI: Delhi-based multi sports content app Sports Flashes has raised an undisclosed amount of funding from media conglomerate Bennett, Coleman and Company Ltd (BCCL).
Reports say the startup will use the newly raised funds to expand its audience base with “impactful marketing initiatives”. The Times Group, led by BCCL, has invested earlier in sports content - it acquired Cricbuzz in November 2014.
Launched in August 2016 by Raman Raheja, Sports Flashes aims to leverage the power of digital technology to disrupt the way sports content is consumed in India. It dishes out live sports TV, live scores, streaming videos, news and views in 70-words a story. The app claims to have an exhaustive list of more than 31 categories in sports to choose from and covers events like Premier league, La Liga, European football, Tennis Grand Slams, Formula 1, MotoGP, Golf and Cricket to name a few. The app also covers topics like health and fitness, mixed martial arts, match-odds and sports astrology predictions.
The app currently boasts of 500,000 subscribers and offers feeds in seven languages. World Champion wrestler Sushil Kumar had also invested in the sports content platform, and so have angels such as Vineet Shrivastava, MD of SREI India; Advitya Dewan, seasoned angel investor; Sandeep Singh of Global Edusports Ventures; Vikas Bajaj of Bajaj Motors Ltd; and Amit Kharbanda of My Box technologies Ltd.
