Johri confirms full India tour to S Africa

MUMBAI: BCCI CEO Rahul Johri has confirmed that India's tour to South Africa in early 2018 is definitely on.

While there is still some "back and forth on the dates", Johri confirmed to PTI that it will be a full tour  and will commence immediately after the visiting Sri Lankan team finishes its tour by the end of December.

Sri Lanka's tour to India was pushed ahead from early 2018 to November - December after Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) requested the BCCI to advance the series as they are supposed to host the tri-nation Independence Cup during that period. As a result, there was a question mark over India's subsequent tour to South Africa.

The Lankan team's dismal performance in the ongoing series with India too may have pushed the  BCCI's decision to go ahead with a full S African tour, to revive advertiser and broadcast interest in Test cricket.

It is worth noting though that there is still no official communication from the BCCI around the tour to South Africa. Some industry executives have told SportzPower the reason for this is that there is still a section of the board's power brokers who "have it in" for Cricket South Africa CEO Haroon Lorgat. Ergo any dealings with CSA "sticks in the craw" of said coterie as long as the former ICC chief executive remains at the helm of affairs.
