Sony scores Cricket Australia's 6-yr b'cast rights

MUMBAI: Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN) will be the new host broadcaster in the Indian subscontient of men's and women's international cricket matches played in Australia for the next six years. 

The incumbent rights holder for Cricket Australia media rights in this territory is Star India.

SPN's rights tenure kicks off with the upcoming Ashes Series in November running through till 2022. 

In separate deals, SPN has also picked up the rights for Australia's two franchise based Twenty20 competitions - the Big Bash League and the Women’s Big Bash League.

With the addition of the Cricket Australia rights package, Sony now holds the media rights to six international cricket boards - South Africa, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, West Indies and Zimbabwe.  

According to Australia's Financial Review, which broke the story, the official announcements will be made Tuesday.
