MUMBAI: American internet video service provider Bamtech has failed to pass muster in the technical evaluation round at the ongoing auction to the IPL media rights that opened this morning here.
Qatar government owned sportscaster beIN Intellectual Property was asked to furnish financial details of its bid, but refused on grounds that it was a sovereign entity and was not required to do so.
The only contender out of the fray is now Bamtech. The big fight, as expected, will be for the India Digital rights, where Reliance Jio Digital, Times Internet, Airtel and Facebook are the eligible contenders.
Broadcasters Star India and Sony Pictures Network are both eligible for the consolidated global bids for the India TV and digital (internet and mobile) rights as well as the rest of the world rights. The next round of financial evaluation will further streamline the shortlisted bidders. Stay tuned for further updates on the auction.
