Sports Ministry grants Bindra's foundation Rs50m

NEW DELHI: The Sports Ministry has joined hands with the Abhinav Bindra Foundation Trust (ABFT) to operate a high-performance sports facility in Bengaluru.

The Ministry gave ABFT a grant of Rs50 million to purchase state-of-the-art equipment and establish a high-performance centre for athletes' rehabilitation, fitness-training and sports science, PTI reports.

The athletes selected for national camps will be allowed to use the facility free of cost. The aid has been given from the National Sports Development Fund, the newswire reports.

An agreement to this effect was signed between Sports Authority of India (SAI) DDG Sandip Pradhan and Bindra in the presence of Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore and SAI DG Injeti Srinivas.

Rathore said he was “pleased” with the development. “Glad to announce that @IndiaSports has teamed with Abhinav Bindra Foundation Trust to operate a high-performance sports facility in Bengaluru,” the newly-appointed minister posted on his Twitter handle.

Bindra, who chairs the Target Olympic Podium (TOP) scheme, is also part of ministry's eight-member Task Force that will draw up an action plan for the next three Olympic Games. Besides, he's also part of the Sports Code Committee, and a national observer for shooting.
