LAUSANNE: Italy's Franco Falcinelli was officially appointed Acting Interim President of the International Boxing Association on Thursday (AIBA) following the suspension of C K Wu on Tuesda.

A majority vote among AIBA Executive Committee members confirmed Falconelli's appointment, say reports.

In a statement, AIBA executive director William Louis-Marie said 72-year-old Falcinelli, President of the European Boxing Confederation (EUBC), would assume Wu's responsibility. 70 year old Taiwanese Wu, who is a member of the International Olympic Committee Executive Board, had appointed Falcinelli as EUBC President in December 2012 following the resignation of France's Dr Humbert Furgoni.

"To date, 15 Executive Committee members [out of] 17 have voted in favour of Mr Franco Falcinelli's appointment as the AIBA Acting Interim President until the final decision of the disciplinary commission is taken with respect to the suspension of the AIBA President, Dr Ching-kuo Wu," the statement said.
