MUMBAI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India has replaced a featherweight team with a lightweight one to kick off its preparations next year for the 2020 ICC T20 World Cup.
In the wake of Zimbabwe’s suspension by ICC, the BCCI invited Sri Lanka to participate in the three-match series. The Sri Lankan team will begin their tour of India with the first T20I which will take place on 5th January at Guwahati. The second and the third T20I will take place at Indore and Pune on 7th January and 10th January respectively.
Sri Lanka had last toured India in 2017 where they had lost all the three formats series. The visitors had lost the ODI series by 2-1 and had also gone down in the T20I series by 2-0.
Test Championship and World Twenty20
Team India embarked upon a new phase in its cricketing cycle post the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales. They returned unbeaten in the month-long tour of West Indies across formats and are now busy with their long home season. With South Africa being the first tourists, the Men in Blue ended a three-match T20I series at 1-1. The action will now move to the longer format where both sides will meet for a three-match series, starting from October 2.
Before facing the Islanders, India are scheduled to play Bangladesh and West Indies in T20Is at home. The team management's biggest challenge in the current scenario remains of managing the workload of the key players with the ICC Test Championship already underway and preparations for next year's World Twenty20 (WT20) in full swing.
