ZURICH: The global governing body of football, FIFA announced after its Organizing Committee meeting in the city on Monday that Asia will be the first continent to kick off the 2022 World Cup qualifying tournament in June this year. The Asian Football Confederation will be responsible in hosting the matches.

DOHA: FIFA, the apex governing body of world football, seems to be taking its President Gianni Infantino’s ‘FIFA 2.0 Vision’ strongly, creating an innovative model that will streamline the operational delivery of the 2022 World Cup. It has announced a formation of a joint venture for the same called ‘FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 LLC’ with the tournament’s Local Organising Committee.

MOSCOW: The Russian president Vladimir Putin on Sunday offered to give 2022 FIFA World Cup host Qatar the opportunity to share Russia's organising lessons learned through hosting the 2018 World Cup. Putin spoke to Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani during a ceremony at the Kremlin to symbolically transfer the World Cup hosting powers to Qatar, which was attended by FIFA president Gianni Infantino, reports Efe.

NEW DELHI: Indian security officials, including Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, are being sought for security assistance for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.  The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) will compile a list of 20 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers for the first security seminar in Qatar’s capital, Doha, in March this year, Indian Express reports.
