NEW DELHI: The most powerful cricket body in the world has yet again been forced to eat humble pie after falling at the wrong end of the stick on the legal front. Needless to say, it is a seriously expensive pie. 

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly ready to cough up compensation of over Rs8 billion to IPL franchise Kochi Tuskers Kerala for terminating its contract in 2011, a massive mark-up on the Rs3 billion the team's promoters were initially willing to settle for.

MUMBAI: England’s director of cricket Andrew Strauss believs that the ECB's 100-ball tournament that is likely to be launched in 2020 will target a more "casual" cricket audience as its aim will be to draw more "mums and kids" to the game, according to an ESPNcricinfo report.

MUMBAI: Pro Star League, an under-16 cricket tournament which aims to identify and nurture talent at the grassroots, kicked off a national-level mentorship camp Saturday.  Supported by the School Games Federation of India (SGFI) and in partnership with the VVS Sports Academy, Sourav Ganguly Foundation and Yuvraj Singh Center of Excellence, and Zaheer Khan, the camp will go on till the first week of May.

LONDON: talkSPORT has won the cricket audio rights for England's major upcoming overseas tours. It is the first time BBC Five Live’s Test Match Special programme has lost the rights for an England away tour to a commercial broadcaster since 2005.  The free to air rights cover England's tours of Sri Lanka and the West Indies including all the Test matches, ODIs and T20 internationals from each tour.

MUMBAI: The Indian cricket board is looking at another massive pay day as the e-auction for BCCI cricket media rights failed to throw up a winner at the "end of day's play" by the allotted 6 pm deadline Tuesday.  At the time the bidding window closed for the day, the bid value in the Global Consolidated Rights category stood at Rs 44.42 billion (Rs 4442 crores, approximately $680 million).

NEW DELHI: The Centre is looking to use 'cricket for diplomacy' by granting free access of India's cricketing facilities to Commonwealth nations, Indian Express reports. The government is likely to make an open invitation to nations for the same, at the Commonwealth Heads of Government (CHOGM) summit, scheduled for April in London.
