BHUBANESWAR: Dana Reizniece Ozola, FIDE management board deputy chair and Latvia's former minister of finance & economics, had a discussion with Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to promote chess and commended the state's initiatives in nurturing young chess talent.

Patnaik and Reizniece-Ozola emphasized the need to popularize chess as a mind-sport and its immense potential to empower the youth intellectually and emotionally.

NEW DELHI: Global Chess League (GCL), a joint venture by FIDE and Tech Mahindra, Wednesday unveiled its official logo, which resembles a chess board with 64 squares.  The logo has been strategically launched 64 days before the inauguration of the first-ever GCL, a number that is well-known in the chess world.

BENGALURU: The International Chess Federation (FIDE) and Tech Mahindra Wednesday announced the launch dates and format of Global Chess League (GCL).  The 12-day Global Chess League (GCL) will begin on June 21 and end on July 2. GCL will be played in ten round-robin matches, with six teams competing (six players in each team), followed by a final match between the top two teams.

FIDE Monday confirmed the dates and venue for the World Rapid and Blitz Championships 2022. The prestigious event will take place in Almaty, Kazakhstan's largest metropolis, set in the foothills of the Trans-Ili Alatau mountains. The championship will be played on its traditional dates, between December 25 (arrival and opening) and December 30 (last playing day and closing).

NEW DELHI: History will be scripted when India hosts the biggest chess event in the world, the Chess Olympiad, for the first time ever.  The 44th edition of the extravaganza will be held later this year in India's Mecca of chess - Chennai. The participants' list will be a virtual who’s who with top stars from across the world participating representing more than 150 countries.

NEW DELHI: International Chess Federation (FIDE) president Arkady Dvorkovich officially handed over the hosting rights to India for the organization of the FIDE Chess Olympiad 2022 at an event in the capital. India secured the bid to host the Chess Olympiad 2022 in Chennai earlier this year.

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu state government, along with the All India Chess Federation, on Wednesday announced that India has won the bid to host FIDE Chess Olympiad 2022 in Chennai. The tentative dates for the FIDE Chess Olympiad 2022 are from 26th July running through to 8th August.

LAUSANNE: The International Chess Federation Wednesday announced the FIDE Online Olympiad 2021, to be held between August 13 and September 15.  The event will follow a format similar to one used last year, with member Federations being represented by their best players and top juniors. The national teams will compete in rapid chess matches played on six boards (see tournament regulations for details).
