Global T20 Canada

MUMBAI: Yuvraj Singh, who recently announced his retirement from international cricket and the Indian Premier League, has been signed up by Toronto Nationals franchise for the Global T20 Canada 2019.

Apart from Toronto Nationals, the second edition of the Global T20 Canada will see five other teams, Vancouver Knights, Winnipeg Hawks, Edmonton Royals, Montreal Tigers and Brampton Wolves competing with each other. Manpreet Gony, the Punjab pacer, will also play alongside Yuvraj in a team which also includes star players like Brendon McCullum, Kieron Pollard and Trent Boult.

MUMBAI: Discovery Communications’ sports channel DSport has begun telecasting live matches of the city-based underarm cricket tournament, Dreamz Premier League (DPL). DPL has been founded by Wasib Peshamim, the founder of recruitment and project infrastructure solutions firm Al Samit International. It has found a title sponsor in Realta Spaces, a real estate company founded in 2014.

SYDNEY: Former Australian captain Steve Smith will be donating his entire playing fees from the upcoming Global T20 Canada league to the development of grassroots cricket in Canada and Australia, cricket.com.au reports.  Smith was named one of the marquee players of the new T20 competition despite being banned for 12 months by Cricket Australia due to the ball-tampering incident in South Africa in March.

NEW DELHI:  Cricket Canada has become the first ICC associate member to secure the backing of the world governing body to launch its own franchise based Twenty20 league. Global T20 Canada, which was announced in the Indian national capital on Thursday, is set to take off from July this year at three venues in Toronto.
