grid girls

MOSCOW: FIA Formula One World Championship will still "be a glamorous" sports event even without grid girls at the start of each Grand Prix, F1 chief executive Chase Carey said on Tuesday.

In late January, the management of Formula One announced its decision to shelve the tradition of models lining up on the starting grids before each race citing flak from the current social climate, reports Tass news agency.

Liberty Media, which owns F1, announced later that the previous scheme of grid girls would be replaced with the new concept of "grid kids".

LONDON: Formula 1 will end the long-standing practice of using walk-on grid girls, commencing with the start of the 2018 FIA Formula 1 World Championship season.  These changes also apply to F1's other motorsports series that take place during the Grands Prix weekends such as F2.
