LAUSANNE: The International Boxing Association on Monday said it has retained McLaren Sport Solution (MGSS), led by Professor Richard McLaren, to conduct a two-phase independent investigation into allgations of unfair refereeing and judging at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. AIBA expects the first phase of the probe to be completed by August.

LAUSANNE: The International Boxing Association has appointed two-times AIBA world champion and Olympic champion István Kovács as the world body's secretary-general.  The decision was taken by the AIBA board of directors on Monday, March 22nd, during a meeting via videoconference.

NEW DELHI: Six-time world champion pugilist Mary Kom has been appointed as the chairperson of the International Boxing Association's (AIBA) champions and veterans committee.  AIBA president Umar Kremlev said this in a letter to the 2012 Olympic Bronze-medallist. Mary Kom was elected by the board of directors of AIBA.

DUBAI: The International Boxing Association (AIBA) has reached agreement with the Emirate of Fujairah in the UAE to hold an annual international tournament for AIBA member countries, it was announced Wednesday.  The inaugural "test" boxing tournament will take place in May.

LAUSANNE: The International Boxing Association (AIBA) has faulted the decision of the International Olympic Committee's Boxing Taskforce to cancel the world qualifying tournament and to postpone the European qualifiers, arguing that the plan to instead allocate quotas based on rankings was "fair and democratic only in theory".

RUSSIA'S UMAR KEMLEV IS the new president of the International Boxing Association (AIBA), winning the election on Saturday with 57.33% of the vote.  The election was held virtually at AIBA’s ongoing Congress due to the pandemic. It was attended by 155 national federations from five continents.

LAUSANNE: Russia has become the first country to host the new format of AIBA Team World Cup.  The event final is scheduled for October in the city of Nizhny Novgorod. The tournament is timed to coincide with 75th anniversary of the victory in World War II under the motto “Boxing for peace”.

LONDON: AIBA president Gafur Rahimov has dramatically resigned from the top job of global boxing after having re-elected to the post barely two months ago. Reportedly, the reason given for the same is his recent past with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which hasn’t supported his candidature due to his alleged links with organized crime.

NEW DELHI: The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) was confirmed as the official governing body of boxing in the country by the Delhi High Court on Thursday. Earlier, the BFI had filed a petition against its rivals, the Indian Amateur Boxing Federation (IABF) over its organising of the sub-junior inter-zonal boxing championships across the country.
