CHENNAI: India's erstwhile tennis capital Chennai will see the return of an international tournament for the first time since 2017 with a WTA 250 event to be held here from September 26 to October 2.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin handed over the approval letter from the state government to hold the event to Indian tennis legend Vijay Amritraj, who is also Tamil Nadu Tennis Association president, here on Saturday, The Hindu reports.

The Tamil Nadu government will be the lead sponsor for the $250,000 event — India’s first-ever WTA 250 tournament.
