TOKYO: Javelin thrower Sumit Antil clinched India's second Gold at the ongoing Paralympics, shattering the men's F64 category world record multiple times in a stunning Games debut performance here on Monday.

The 23-year-old from Sonepat in Haryana, who lost his left leg below the knee after he was involved in a motorbike accident in 2015, sent the spear to 68.55m in his fifth attempt, which was the best of the day by quite a distance and a new world record, PTI reports.

TOKYO: Shooter Avani Lekhara scripted history on Monday as she became the first Indian woman to win a Gold medal at the Tokyo Paralympics, firing her way to the top of the podium in the R-2 women's 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 event here.   The 19-year-old finished with a world record equalling total of 249.6, which is also a new Paralympic record.

TOKYO: The Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games for Tokyo 2020 Monday announced details of the first ever Paralympic Torch Relay, including the planned schedule for the lighting of the torch and its display across Japan. Its emblem was also unveiled, that will be used to depict the relay.

NEW DELHI: In a major boost for para-sports, 12 high-performing para-athletes, including Asiad gold winner Sharad Kumar, were named on Wednesday in the revised Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) list by the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Press Trust of India reports.
