Gafur Rahimov

LONDON: AIBA president Gafur Rahimov has dramatically resigned from the top job of global boxing after having re-elected to the post barely two months ago. Reportedly, the reason given for the same is his recent past with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which hasn’t supported his candidature due to his alleged links with organized crime.

Rahimov’s presence had put boxing’s place in the 2020 Tokyo Games and future Olympic events under jeopardy, putting the sport under a huge threat of being isolated.
