NEW DELHI: The stage is set for the 2023 season of the Hero Indian Women's League, the country's top-flight club competition for women's football, to kick off from Wednesday morning in Ahmedabad.

The 2022-23 season will see 16 teams in the fray for the title, the most expansive the league has been in its short history. It provides a unique opportunity for many to stake a claim for next season. The top eight teams from this season will get direct slots in next season’s Hero IWL, which will be played on a home-and-away basis.

Indian Women's League to kick off April 25; 16 teams in fray

NEW DELHI: The 2023 edition of the Hero Indian Women's League (IWL) will kick off from April 25, with 16 teams vying for top honours. The decision was taken Monday by the All India Football Federation League Committee, which met via video conferencing. The dates of IWL 2023 were decided to ensure there was enough gap between the IWL and the 27th Senior Women’s National Football Championships 2022-23.

100+ clubs interested in playing Indian Women’s League: AIFF

NEW DELHI: A significant expansion of the Hero Indian Women's League, which currently comprises 24 teams, is on the anvil, I-League CEO Sunando Dhar has confirmed. “108 clubs across 14 states have shown interest to play in the Hero Indian Women’s League. The aim is to increase the matches,” Dhar informed the All India Football Federation's (AIFF) executive committee, at its meeting held here Tuesday.
