LEANDER PAES, the 18-time Grand Slam champion, has formally assumed charge as president of the Bengal Tennis Association (BTA), succeeding Hironmoy Chatterjee following the body’s annual general meeting on Saturday.
Paes’s election as BTA chief was unanimous. Having previously served as the Association’s honorary vice-president, he brings both experience and credibility to the role, along with a deep understanding of Bengal’s tennis ecosystem.
His elevation to the top of Bengal tennis administration places him alongside another Kolkata icon, Sourav Ganguly, who recently returned as president of the Cricket Association of Bengal.
