NEW DELHI: Former All India Football Federation vice-president CR Viswanathan passed away Monday.
He is survived by his wife, daughter, and son.
Apart from being the AIFF vice-president (2004-08), Viswanathan was also a member of the AIFF executive committee from 2008 to 2012, and chairman of the AIFF Technical Committee from 2009 to 2012.
Aside from his roles in the AIFF, Viswanathan was also the president of the Tamil Nadu Football Association and the Coimbatore District Football Association, and played a crucial role in the hosting of the 1993 Nehru Cup at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, in Chennai.
AIFF president Praful Patel, in his condolence message, said: “The AIFF fraternity is shocked to hear about the sad demise of Mr CR Viswanathan. He will be remembered for his contribution to Indian Football, and sports. My thoughts lie with his family. We pray for his soul to rest in peace.”
AIFF general secretary Kushal Das noted: “On behalf of the Indian football fraternity we offer our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. Mr Viswanathan was a versatile administrator who served not just Indian Football in different capacities, but also worked towards the overall development of Indian sports. We pray for his soul to rest in peace.”
