Football stars to join Trophy Tour in Kolkata

KOLKATA: Former football stars Shyam Thapa, Subrata Bhattacharya and Prasun Banerjee are among those expected to join the FIFA U-17 World Cup Trophy Tour in Kolkata from September 1 to 3.

The six-city trophy tour for the FIFA U-17 World Cup began in the national capital from August 17. The tour will cover almost 9,000 km over a period of 40 days between August 17 and September 26.

The idea behind the trophy experience is to give everyone a unique experience to see the FIFA U-17 World Cup Official Winner's Trophy up close. Football fans and families across India are invited to be part of the trophy experience at all the six host cities, learn more about the tournament, and have their photographs taken with the same trophy the winning team will lift on 28 October.

In Kolkata, children from schools across Kolkata, who are part of the FIFA U-17 World Cup lndia 2017 legacy programme, will get a chance to see the trophy apart from taking part in several football related activities on the pitch, a release stated.

The three-day ‘trophy experience’ will conclude at the Eco Park, a popular tourist spot where fans will have the opportunity to come up close and take selfie with the silverware.
