HYDERABAD: A Sports Authority of India team visited the town of Khammam this week to explore the feasibility of setting up a sports academy dedicated to imparting world-class training in archery there.
Archery enthusiasts in Khammam have for long been pressing for an academy to be set up in the area long known for its large pool of talented archers, and have identified two sites - one adjacent to Sequel Resorts and another near the VDOs colony - for the setting up of the academy.
Many former students of the Tribal Welfare Residential Sports School at Kinnerasani, now part of Bhadradri-Kothagudem district, have distinguished themselves in national level archery competitions. The erstwhile Khammam district and the adjoining Bhadradri-Kothagudem district, the tribal heartland of Telangana have been known to be archers of high calibre.
