MUNICH: DAZN, the first global pure sport live and on demand streaming service owned by Perform Group, has secured multi-platform broadcast rights for Serie A, Italy’s top football league.
The three-year deal between 2018 and 2021 will see DAZN screen up to 380 Serie A matches per season exclusively in Germany and Austria, and digitally exclusive in Canada. The revolutionary live and on demand streaming service also secures the rights for Japan where it will screen one top pick exclusively every other week, and up to seven matches a week.
The new agreement bolsters DAZN’s premium and extensive multi-sport offering which gives fans the power to choose between simultaneous live matches and select the teams and players they want to watch. The deal extends DAZN’s coverage of Serie A in Germany, Austria and Japan and adds it in Canada where is was previously offered by DAZN as part of a carriage agreement with beIN Sports.
Speaking of the agreement, James Rushton, CEO at DAZN, said: “This deal extends our commitment to screening extensive coverage from Italy’s top football league around the globe. With Ronaldo joining Juventus, we expect this to be a huge draw and benefit five of our markets, with DAZN Italy already confirmed to show 114 matches a season exclusively for three seasons. The investment is central to our fan-first philosophy and belief in offering an unrivalled multi-sport experience that is accessible, affordable and flexible,” Ruston added.
Earlier this summer, DAZN swooped for 114 exclusive Serie A matches and all Serie B fixtures in Italy and entered the Italian market. The company subsequently unveiled an array of premium sport that will premiere on the Italian service, including LaLiga, Ligue 1 and Ligue 2, Copa Libertadores, Copa Sudamericana, Africa Cup of Nations, FA Cup, EFL Cup, NHL, MLB, Heineken Champions Cup, Guinness Pro14, UFC, Matchroom Boxing, Showtime Boxing, Bellator MMA, PDC Darts and the World Rally Championship (WRC).
DAZN will be available in these countries on most devices, including smart TVs, PCs, mobile phones, tablets and games consoles. In Italy, it will be launching as an app on Sky Q. DAZN gives fans complete control offering a free month trial and no long-term contract.
