MUMBAI: The Champs Foundation - a brainchild of former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar - will be celebrating 20 years with a double wicket charity fundraiser at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday.
Prominent ex-cricketers Saurav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, Mohd Kaif, to name a few, will be seen in action along with leading corporate head honchos at the charity fundraiser.
For the last 20 years, The Champs Foundation has worked to better the financial condition of former Indian international sportspersons who fell on hard times.
Champs, which is an acronym for Caring, Helping, Assisting, Motivating and Promoting Sportspersons, was formed in 1999 with the support of fellow trustees, the late Nana Chudasama (former sheriff of Mumbai and philanthropist), avid sports lover and founder of Sportsweek magazine, Khalid A-H Ansari, Mrs Marshniel Gavaskar, yesteryears batting artist Gundappa Viswanath, advertising guru Sam Balsara and Noomi Mehta.
In an endeavor to broaden its horizon and open up a broader avenue for those interested in contributing to bettering the conditions of sportspersons, The Champs Foundation has recently launched an online donation option through their website www.champsindia.org.
