NEW YORK: The NHL and NHL Players' Association on Tuesday announced a multi-year North American agreement with Bodyarmor Sports Drink to be the league’s official sports drink.

Bodyarmor replaces BioSteel in that department after BioSteel filed for bankruptcy last year.

The Bodyarmor brand will be featured for the first time across the League on Saturday, April 20, the opening day of the 2024 Stanley Cup playoffs.

CHENNAI: The world governing body of chess, FIDE, has postponed the Olympiad, scheduled for August 5-17 in Moscow, to 2021 owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. FIDE issued a statement saying that the Olympiad and the FIDE Congress, slated to be held in August in Moscow and Khanty-Mansiysk respectively, are rescheduled to the summer of 2021 at the same locations.

CANADA AND Australia have become the first countries to withdraw their teams from the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympics, even as Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said for the first time on Monday that the Games could be postponed if it could not be held in its "complete form" because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

NEW DELLHI: In the wake of the spiralling coronavirus cases in the country, the Union Sports Ministry has issued an advisory to all sports organisations that bars "all sports organisations and their affiliate units" from holding any events till April 15. Additionally, all Sports Authority of India (SAI) facilities too will be shut for the duration.

TOKYO: The Olympic flame for Tokyo 2020 touched down in Japan early on Friday to start its 121-day Olympic Torch Relay journey around the country, bringing a message of peace and hope to the world. The flame was transported by a special aircraft “Tokyo 2020 Go” from Athens, Greece, and arrived at Japan Air Self-Defence Force (JASDF) Matsushima Air Base in Miyagi Prefecture shortly before 10am local time.

TOKYO: In the face of major sports organisations across the world either canceling or postponing major events in the face of the spiralling COVID-19 pandemic, the biggest of them all - the International Olympic Committee - on Tuesday remained steadfast in its messaging that the Tokyo 2020 Olympics would go ahead on scheduled and there was "no need for any drastic decisions at this stage".

INDIAN OLYMPIC ASSOCIATION (IOA) secretary general Rajeev Mehta on Monday said he is hopeful that Kho Kho, a traditional Indian sport, will be included in the 2026 Asian Games roster scheduled to be held in Japan. Kho Kho is currently played by 25 countries across the globe. "Kho Kho was formally recognised by the Olympic Council of Asia during the 18th Asian Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia, in 2018.
