REFEREE TRAINING PROGRAMME under Royal Enfield Ice Hockey Season 3 is currently underway at ISKATE by Roseate, marking the second on-ground capacity-building initiative of the 2025–26 season.
Held from 1 to 5 December, the programme brings together more than 20 officials from Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, underscoring Royal Enfield’s continued commitment to strengthening the technical foundations of ice hockey across the Himalayan region, according to a company release.
Before beginning their on-ice training in New Delhi, all participating officials completed four virtual modules as part of the structured, season-long Referee Development Programme. These sessions introduced essential officiating principles to ensure every participant entered the on-ice phase with a shared understanding of rules, mechanics and situational judgement.
The training is led by Peter Gebei, a seasoned ice hockey professional from Hungary with over 40 years of experience as a player, referee and officiating coach. A former member of the Hungarian national team with 57 international caps, Gebei later transitioned to officiating and has refereed in top international leagues, including the Austrian Hockey League (Erste Bank Eishockey Liga) and the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).
Aligned with the Blueprint for Himalayan Ice Hockey Development, the programme enhances governance and officiating standards vital for the sport’s expansion in emerging regions. The week-long training blends classroom learning, on-ice demonstrations and scenario-based assessments to develop a technically strong cohort of officials capable of supporting developmental competitions and community-led tournaments.
Following the New Delhi programme, trained officials will travel to Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh to assist with Learn to Play initiatives and officiate at early-season regional camps. They will also form the core officiating group for upcoming developmental leagues in early 2026, including the Royal Enfield Ice Hockey League (REIHL) in Ladakh and the Spiti Cup, powered by Royal Enfield, in Himachal Pradesh.
