AIBA approves new constitution, acronym; sets reforms agenda

LAUSANNE: The International Boxing Association (AIBA) Extraordinary Congress Monday ushered in a new era for the sport as the federation changed its acronym from AIBA to IBA, while adopting a comprehensive set of governance reforms developed by independent experts. 

A total of 107 of IBA’s national federations were in attendance to approve these wide-spread changes.

IOC approves Tokyo 2020 qualification pathway for boxing
LAUSANNE: The International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Wednesday unveiled its plan for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics’ boxing tournament, which it is organising in place of amateur boxing’s troubled governing body, the AIBA. The IOC stripped the AIBA of the right to run the sport at next year’s Games in May after an investigation into alleged serious mismanagement at boxing’s crisis-ridden ruling authority.

IOC suspends AIBA; boxing place at Tokyo 2020 stays

India to host intl men's and women's boxing championships
NEW DELHI: India will host its first-ever major boxing tournament for elite men and women - the India Open International Boxing Tournament - from 28 January 2018 in New Delhi.  The country will also host the Senior Men’s World Championships in 2021, Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore announced on Friday.

BFI launches logo, mascot for youth women's world championship
GUWAHATI: The Boxing Federation of India has unveiled the logo, mascot and an official song for the youth women’s world championships, to be held here from 19 November. The event, that marks the return of big ticket boxing to India, will feature close to 200 boxers from 38 countries.
