LONDON: The shirt the late Diego Maradona wore when the footballing great scored the ‘goal of the century’, as too his ‘Hand of God’ goal, for Argentina against England at the 1986 World Cup has sold for a record £7.1 million.

It is the highest price ever paid for a piece of sports memorabilia. Former England midfielder Steve Hodge put it up for auction 36 years after he swapped it with Maradona following the famous quarter final in Mexico.

THE BAT USED BY THE LEGENDARY DONALD BRADMAN in the 1934 Ashes series, with which he scored two triple-centuries, is up for auction. Bradman had also used the bat to score his highest ever Test partnership of 451 runs with opening batter Bill Ponsford, PTI notes. The bat has been on display at the Bradman Museum in Bowral in the NSW Southern Highlands since 1999, on loan from a private owner.

MUMBAI: VIVO Pro Kabaddi, India’s biggest non-cricket sports league by television ratings, concluded the Season 6 Player Auctions on a historic note. At the end, a total of Rs 459.3 million was spent on the 181 players bought out of 422 available, a huge jump from the auctions last season.
