NEW DELHI: The Badminton Association of India (BAI) has written to the Badminton World Federation (BWF), expressing its interest to host the Sudirman Cup finals this year.

India was scheduled to host the mixed team championship in 2023, but the BWF awarded the rights to Suzhou, China, while giving the 2026 World Championships to India.

Suzhou was due to host the championships in 2021 but, due to the COVID-19 situation in China, the BWF was not able to stage any tournaments in the country and the event was shifted to Vantaa in Finland.

June 21:  The Badminton World Federation announced at the weekend it will upgrade the India Open to a BWF Super 750 event from its existing Super 500 status and retain Syed Modi International in its World Tour calendar. The change will come into effect starting the 2023 season.

CUTTACK: After successfully organising its first Badminton World Federation (BWF) event, the Odisha Open 2022, the Odisha government is going to make the tournament an annual event, officials said here on Sunday.  The Odisha Open 2022, which commenced on January 25, concluded at Cuttack's Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium.

BHUBANESWAR: With five days to go, the Odisha government is leaving no stone unturned to successfully host the inaugural edition of the Odisha Open international badminton tournament, which will witness over 300 players from 18 countries vie for top honours. The 2022 Odisha Open is a BWF Super 100 tournament that will take place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Cuttack from January 25 to 30.

NEW DELHI: The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has confirmed that seven Indian shuttlers have been withdrawn from the YONEX-SUNRISE India Open 2022 after testing positive for COVID-19. The players returned a positive result to a mandatory RT-PCR test conducted on Tuesday. Doubles  partners deemed close contact of the seven players have also been withdrawn from the tournament.

NEW DELHI: Badminton legend Prakash Padukone will receive the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award this year from the Badminton World Federation (BWF). The BWF Council shortlisted the sporting icon based on the award commission's recommendation. Badminton Association of India (BAI) had submitted his name for the award.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Badminton World Federation (BWF) confirmed Friday that no further tournaments will be played inside the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games qualifying window. As such, while the qualification period officially closes 15 June as per the Revised Tokyo 2020 Qualification System, the current Race To Tokyo rankings list will not change.

LAUSANNE: The 82nd AGM of the Badminton World Federation was held virtually on Saturday, 22 May, with a record 158 Members attending and taking part in the meeting.  A total of 15 proposals were voted on, and the elections for the BWF Council (2021 – 2025) were held.
