I-League

MUMBAI: India, long known as the epi-centre of cricket betting syndicates, has now been hit by a match-fixing scandal involving football. 

Five football clubs from the I-League are reportedly under the scanner of the Central Bureau of Investigation. As per Times of India, the CBI started a probe after it emerged that a notorious Singapore-based match-fixer Wilson Raj Perumal invested massive sums of money into the as yet unnamed clubs.

NEW DELHI: A report prepared by a two-member committee appointed by FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has recommended that should The All India Football Federation (AIFF) and its commercial partners Football Sports Development Ltd fail to merge the the two top tier football leagues in the country - Indian Super league (ISL) and the I-League - from 2019-20, Indian clubs will be barred from Asian competitions.

NEW DELHI: Well, this is certainly a surprise! The All India Football Federation and its commercial partners Football Sports Development Ltd will, for at least one more season, be continuing with what was supposed to be a "one-off" necessitated by India's hosting the FIFA U-17 World Cup last October. Which is that the Indian Super League and the I-League will stay separate and run simultaneously.

MUMBAI: In an attempt to prevent match-fixing, the AIFF has rescheduled the Hero I-League match between Gokulam Kerala FC and Mohun Bagan, which was earlier scheduled to be played on Tuesday, to March 8, the final day of the league.

MUMBAI: The proposed Super Cup by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) is not finding many takers. After I-League clubs Mohun Bagan and East Bengal had questioned the format, timing and venue choice, coaches of ISL clubs are also expressing their unhappiness. While the coach of North East United FC, Avram Grant had criticised the scheduling, the Kerala FC coach, James David, had talked about it positively.

CHENNAI: I-League club Chennai City FC (CCFC) announced on Friday that it has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Coimbatore Smart City Limited (CSCL) - a company that implements the Central government’s Smart City projects - to redevelop and maintain Coimbatore’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium for the next five years commencing from November 2017.
