Intl Weightlifting Federation names 3rd president in a week

BUDAPEST, Hungary: The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), fighting to keep its place at the 2024 Paris Olympics, on Friday named a third president in a crisis-hit week.

"In accordance with the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Constitution and by-laws, the IWF executive board at its meeting held on Friday appointed Dr Michael Irani as IWF interim president," the IWF stated.

IWF prez named India’s Chef de Mission for Tokyo 2020
NEW DELHI: The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) Thursday appointed one of its vice presidents and Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF) president Birendra Baishya as the Chef de Mission for India’s Tokyo 2020 campaign. "It is for the first time that the sport of weightlifting has been accorded with honour of Chef de Mission for the Olympic Games," IWF secretary Sahdev Yadav said in a statement.

Asian Weightlifting C'ships 2019 awarded to India
NEW DELHI: The 2019 edition of the Asian Senior (Men & Women) Weightlifting Championships has been allotted to India, a first for the country. The championships will also double up as a qualifying event for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
