MUMBAI: India, long known as the epi-centre of cricket betting syndicates, has now been hit by a match-fixing scandal involving football. 

Five football clubs from the I-League are reportedly under the scanner of the Central Bureau of Investigation. As per Times of India, the CBI started a probe after it emerged that a notorious Singapore-based match-fixer Wilson Raj Perumal invested massive sums of money into the as yet unnamed clubs.

The verdict? Case closed "due to insufficient credible and reliable evidence".

MUMBAI: At present, most of the match-fixing cases which are being investigated by the International Cricket Council have originated from India, Steve Richardson, coordinator of investigations at ICC's Anti-Corruption Unite (ACU), has revealed.  As per reports, fixers are now targeting state leagues as well as lesser-known competitions rather than the major events like the Indian Premier League (IPL).

MUMBAI: Sri Lanka's former Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage has gain raised the bogey of match-fixing that has surfaced on and off around the 2011 World Cup final between India and Sri Lanka in Mumbai.  At the iconic Wankhede Stadium, the Men in Blue, led by MS Dhoni, won by six wickets with 10 balls to spare and it was the first instance of a team, winning the mega event on home soil.

DUBAI:  The International Cricket Council (ICC) has banned Oman player Yousuf Abdulrahim Al Balushi from all forms of cricket for seven years for his involvement in match-fixing. Al Balushi accepted four charges of breaching the ICC Anti-Corruption Code, the games world governing body declared.

NEW DELHI: Nearly 20 years after world cricket's first major match-fixing scandal roiled the "gentleman's game", Sanjeev Chawla, a bookie and key accused, has been extradited and brought to India.  This marks the first high-profile extradition of its kind under the India-UK Extradition Treaty, signed in 1992. Chawla is wanted in India to face charges of match-fixing during South Africa’s tour in 2000.

NEW DELHI: BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit chief Ajit Singh Shekhawat has proposed a match-fixing law, besides legalisation of betting, to tackle corruption in Indian cricket.  This was after 12 cricketers, including national and international, reported corrupt approaches in the last one year. The Tamil Nadu Premier League has come under scanner for suspect activity.

MUMBAI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s anti-corruption unit (ACU) has been investigating cases of alleged match-fixing in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) and has zeroed in on an India player, an Indian Premier League regular and a Ranji Trophy coach, Indian Express reported Monday.
