Padma Shri

NEW DELHI: Joining several other sportspersons, former Indian hockey team captain and two-time Olympian Pargat Singh and former national boxing coach Gurbax Singh Sandhu have decided to return their respective Padma Shri and Dronacharya Awards in support of agitating farmers.

Pargat was awarded the Padma Shri in 1998. As for Gurbax Singh, the Dronacharya Award is the highest national award in the field of coaching.

NEW DELHI: Celebrated boxer MC Mary Kom is to be conferred with the Padma Vibhushan, the country's second highest civilian award, while world champion shuttler PV Sindhu will get the Padma Bhushan, India's third highest honour.  The duo are among eight awardees in the sports category announced by the government for the prestigious honours on Saturday, on the eve of the country's 71st Republic Day.

NEW DELHI: India’s Ministry of Home Affairs declared on the occasion of Republic Day on Saturday that 94 civilians are set to receive the Padma Shri in 2019, the fourth highest honour in the country.

NEW DELHI: Former Indian cricket team skipper MS Dhoni and multiple world champion cueist Pankaj Advani were conferred with the country’s third-highest civilian award, Padma Bhushan, by President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan here Tuesday.
