Pro kabaddi league

As they say: "There is many a slip between the cup and the lip." Mashal Sports, the Disney Star-promoted organisers of the well established franchise-based Pro Kabaddi League, have been hit with a googly in the wake of its recent announcement that it would soon be staging a women’s kabaddi league.

A potential spanner has been thrown in the works as far as those plans are concerned after the International Kabaddi Federation (IKF) denied having given its endorsement to Mashal Sports for organising a women’s kabaddi league.

NEW DELHI: In what looks to be a re-invention of the defunct World Kabaddi League entering (or should one say re-entering?) the arena now totally dominated by Pro Kabaddi League is a new entity called ‘Indo International Premier Kabaddi League’, which will be presented by The New Kabaddi Federation of India (NKFI).

MUMBAI: Star India controlled Mashal Sports, promoters of VIVO Pro Kabaddi, have announced that the sixth season of the competition will begin on October 5 this year and the finals would be held on 5th January 5, 2019. With the Asian Games to take place in Indonesia during the months of August and September, a decision has been made to postpone the event.

CHENNAI: Tamil Thalaivas announced Monday trials for the country’s first private residential academy dedicated to the sport of kabaddi. The academy, a partnership between the Pro Kabaddi franchise and Jeppiaar Educational Trust, will commence its first batch starting July.

MUMBAI: The Pro Kabaddi League Season VI auction was expected to be bigger than ever before, with 422 players going under the hammer in a span of 2 days.  For the first time in the tournament’s history, teams had to first pick from the New Young Players category which was created courtesy the Future Kabaddi Heroes program that had taken place in February.

MUMBAI: VIVO Pro Kabaddi, India’s biggest non-cricket sports league by television ratings, concluded the Season 6 Player Auctions on a historic note. At the end, a total of Rs 459.3 million was spent on the 181 players bought out of 422 available, a huge jump from the auctions last season.
