NEW DELHI: Kiren Rijiju was on Friday appointed as the new Sports Minister. He replaced Olympic medallist Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore.

Along with the Independent charge of the Sports and Youth Affairs, Rijiju was also named as the Minister of State for Minority Affairs.

"My heartfelt gratitude to PM Narendra Modi for reposing faith in me to be a member of his council of ministers. I sincerely thank Amit Shahji along with karyakartas and well wishers across India," Rijiju tweeted on Friday.

NEW DELHI: The Sports Ministry is in the process of hiring CEOs to run the National Sports Federations. Union Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore told PTI on Wednesday that his ministry will only take policy decisions on sports, the execution of which will be left to the professionals.

NEW DELHI: The Sports Ministry has joined hands with the Abhinav Bindra Foundation Trust (ABFT) to operate a high-performance sports facility in Bengaluru.  The Ministry gave ABFT a grant of Rs50 million to purchase state-of-the-art equipment and establish a high-performance centre for athletes' rehabilitation, fitness-training and sports science, PTI reports.

NEW DELHI: Newly appointed Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore has appealed to all sports federations to consider sportspersons as most important. "Let's keep sportsmen as most important people, everything else will fall into place later," he told ANI. Singh added that the "best of the opportunities" will be provided to all sportspersons in their endeavour to make India a strong sporting nation.
