SEOUL: With major sports on hold around the world, South Korean football's K-League has garnered positive interest for the media rights to the upcoming season from broadcasters in 10 foreign territories, with more buy-ins expected. 

South Korea has brought COVID-19 outbreak under control thanks to an extensive "trace, test and treat" programme, and its football season will start on May 8, shortly after baseball resumes on May 5, both behind closed doors, AFP reports.

KUALA LUMPUR: China will be the host nation of the the 18th edition of the AFC Asian Cup in 2023 after the only other bidders South Korea withdrew from the process. The tournament will involve 24 national teams after its expansion of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup, including that of the host nation, assuming the current format of the finals is maintained. Qatar are the defending champions.

SEOUL: South Korea has gone a step further in reconciling with neighbours North Korea by extending an official invite to them for participating in the 100th edition of its national sports festival in 2019, the country’s Yonhap news agency reported on Wednesday.
