MUMBAI: The United Arab Emirates is on standby to host this year’s ICC Men's T20 World Cup should the escalating Covid cases in India make a switch necessary.

Sri Lanka's Nation newspaper, quoting ICC sources, reports that while it is too early to make a call on a tournament that is due to get under way in just under six months, the ICC is ‘monitoring the situation closely’ and have been in regular dialogue with the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

NEW DELHI: The Union Sports Ministry has reportedly provided the seal of approval to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to shift this year's Indian Premier League (IPL) to the UAE. Following the postponement of the T20 World Cup by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday, IPL is now set to be held during the window of September 19 to November 10.

MUMBAI: IPL Governing Council chairman Brijesh Patel confirmed Sunday that the BCCI has sent an official request to the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) to stage the Indian Premier League in the UAE. “Yes, we have sent the acceptance letter to the ECB and both the boards will be working together from now on to stage the tournament,” Patel told UAE's Khaleej Times.

MUMBAI: Taking the IPL to the UAE will make monitoring the event "slightly easier" as it would be restricted to just three venues, BCCI's Anti-Corruption Unit head Ajit Singh believes. IPL 2020 is set to start in the UAE on September 19 and the final will be held on November 8 or November 10, with three venues - Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi hosting the 60 games over 51 days.
