DOHA: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry of the State of Qatar welcomed the June 16 ruling by the World Trade Organization (WTO) that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia had breached intellectual property rights (IPR) by refusing to take action against the beoutQ piracy channel and instead actively promoted this piracy.

GENEVA: The World Trade Organization has said it would investigate Qatar's allegations of intellectual property breaches against Saudi Arabia, dismissing Riyadh's objection over what it said were national security concerns. A Geneva trade official said on Tuesday the WTO had agreed "to establish a panel to rule on Saudi Arabia's alleged failure to provide adequate protection of intellectual property rights".

beIN Sports files $1bn damages claim against Saudi Arabia

DOHA: Qatar's global sports and entertainment media group, beIN Corporation (beIN), Monday launched an international investment arbitration against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for damages totalling more than $1 billion, over not just “state-sponsored broadcast piracy” of sporting events but also for "having been unlawfully driven out of the Saudi market".
